Fenton Street Market (FSM) is back and in a new location on Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street.  Stop by my red tent--I'll be there from noon to 6 PM.  Opened in 2009, FSM is a handmade and craft market featuring over 30 new and returning vendors selling everything from art,  handmade jewelry, and soap to vintage bikes and cultural craft imports.  FSM is the place to find unique treasures and support the local economy. FSM hosts free community activities such as yoga classes and kids story times; and serves as a venue for local organizations, musicians and non-profits to reach new audiences.  If you can't make it in October, I will be out there again on November 12.

Kensington Fall Festival

The third annual Kensington Fall Festival will take place on the quaint streets of Old Town Kensington, Maryland.  East Howard Avenue and Armory Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic while families from the DMV are invited to explore the community, enjoy the offerings of local food trucks, see live music and kids performances on two stages, and shop from over 80 local vendors of unique, handmade items.  Look for my red tent where you will find cards, calendars, and more.

Gateway Open Studio Tours

Pyramid Atlantic Art Center will be a part of the Gateway Open Studios Tour on Saturday, May 13, from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m.  I am located in Studio 2A, across from the door that opens to the parking lot behind the building.  Over 100 individual artists, galleries, and cultural venues throughout the Gateway Arts District will be open to the public, offering behind the scenes access. Visitors are invited to meet the artists, see their work, and explore their studios. The event is free and all are welcome. I will not be able to attend this event as planned, however, my cards will be available in the GALA Shop.  Stop the 2017 edition of GALA Crest fair in conjunction with the 12th annual Day of the Book Festival! This holiday market is a fundraiser for National Community Church's A1:8 Haiti Mission team.  The goal is to provide funds directly to the Redeemers Child orphanage and school construction project in Croix de Bouquet, Haiti.  There will be local crafters and artists, tasty treats, and more!   Ebenezers Coffeehouse is hosting this event in its performance space.  Ebenezers is located a short distance from Union Station in Washington, DC.

During these cold winter months, stop by Kefa Cafe's SPACE 710 gallery to enjoy my original art and prints on display and while you are there, have a tasty, hot beverage.  Located in the heart of downtown Silver Spring on Bonifant Street, Kefa Cafe is a popular community gathering place.  It is open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Sunday.  We are planning a post-holidays reception for Friday, January 6, 7:10 - 8:30 pm.  Hope you will join us then!

The Black King, and other CFJ Fine Arts products are heading to this year's Harlem Book Fair, locate on West 135th Street from Lennox Avenue to Fredrick Douglass Boulvard in New York City.  From 11:00 Am - 5:00 PM, book sellers will be out in full force, but there will also be food, music, and lots more!!!  Fair is located next to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Art 4 All: Think Jazz Presention

The Silver Spring Library Advisory Committee and the Friends of the Silver Spring Library are sponsoring Art 4 All: Think Jazz with artist Cynthia Farrell Johnson on Tuesday, July 12, at 7pm in the Silver Spring Library. The presentation will discuss how 10 jazz musicians inspired the paintings that were featured in an exhibition in the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery in November 2015.  The musicians are: Dee Dee Bridgewater, Donald Byrd, Don Cherry, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Carmen McRae, Thelonious Monk, Esperanza Spaulding, and Randy Weston.  This program is FREE and open to the public.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and we want to celebrate the ten musicians who inspired an art exhibit.  Join us for Art 4 All: Think Jazz! with artist Cynthia Farrell Johnson on Thursday, April 21st at 7pm in the Silver Spring Civic Building. This program begins at 7pm with the SSTCi Spring Potluck, immediately followed by the presentation at 7.30pm.  This event is FREE and open to the public.

The inspirational musicians are Dee Dee Bridgewater, Donald Byrd, Don Cherry, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Carmen McRae, Thelonious Monk, Esperanza Spaulding, and Randy, Weston.
